About Social Labels:
This piece I created was inspired by what women are living across the world (e.g women in Afghanistan). However this goes beyond genre ( he, she, they, etc) , ethnicity ( Caucasian, Latino, Asian, etc), Age, Religion, Weight, Nationality and much more….it is about all the labels society and the institutions give us, dictate us and if we go against them, we are segregated, discriminated, ignored, silenced, tortured … Michael Faucault once wrote “…if you are not like everybody else, then you are abnormal, if you are abnormal, then you are sick. These three categories, not being like everybody else, not being normal and being sick are in fact very different but have been reduced to the same thing.”
